Glad you are along for the ride to transform your smile one fun, maybe not stressful, and smiley step at a time.
Here withPartha Dental we believe that your smile is your signature and with our expertise in designing smiles, we believe that is what we need to do to make it shine.
Here you will see our week by week timeline of how long does smile designing take; and also some information regarding the different treatment types and the treatment time you can expect.
Why Smile Designing?
Think about smile designing much like custom tailoring a suit but for your teeth! Instead of off-the-rack, you are getting custom, tailored better to fit your face, lips, and personality. Our team combines art + science to create a smile that is uniquely you.
We will get into types of smile designing later on, but generally, if you are looking to brighten, straighten, reshape, or full-mouth glam, the outcome is really all the same: greater confidence, less hiding in pictures!
Moving on: it is time to get to the fun part.
Let’s answer that big question first- How long does smile designing take?
How long does smile designing take?
Simply put- it depends.
It depends on how much change you are looking for, what you want to change, your dental health and which smile designing treatment type relates to you- some minor tweaks can be done in a week or two, however larger treatments can take several weeks or even months, if you want to truly obtain a major smile makeover.
But at Partha Dental, most full-smile designs can be accomplished within 4 to 6 weeks, if you are willing to commit, be in our clinics as scheduled, and your mouth cooperates of course.
Let us break this down in a week by week roadmap so that you know exactly what to expect.
Week-by-Week Timeline at Partha Dental
Week 0 – Kick-off:
Free Consultation & Smile Vision
You have just stepped into our clinic at your chosen branch.
Now we are talking: What do you dislike about your smile? What would you like to change? Are there gapy teeth, discolored teeth, worn edges, crooked edges….
Digital photos, intra-oral scans, and maybe 3D imaging.
We talk about the types of smile designing (veneers, composite bonding, aligners, whitening) and give you a timeline and our best estimate of what it will cost.
You choose the type of makeover that you would like to have done and we agree on how long we think this “personal smile designing” treatment time will be.
And we’ll schedule your next appointment.
Week 1 – Pre-Treatment & Preparatory Work
If you’ve got any issues hanging around (e.g., cavities, gum infection, old fillings to be replaced), we will take care of them. Why? Because you really wouldn’t want to have great looking teeth sitting on a wobbly foundation!
Professional cleaning (scaling) to relieve you of your dirty and inflamed gums, which we would like to be nice and pink.
If you are going with aligners (one of smile designing), we would take impressions or scans, and start making the aligners.
If you are going with veneers or composites, we will work on shade matching, design mock-ups, and maybe do a wax-up of what you will look like.
Week 2 – The Main Treatment Starts
For veneer or lumineer cases we would check to see if we need to prepare the edge of your teeth, finalize impressions or scans for lab work, and likely put on temporary veneers to continue until you get your finished product so we can keep smiling.
For composite bonding cases– we would begin applying the bonding resin and shaping it sometimes over one or two visits.
For whitening– we would likely begin a session in our clinic. For aligner cases– the aligners arrive and you start wearing the aligners on the same day or in the next appointment.
Book your FREE consultationWeek 3 – Refinement and Monitoring
If you have veneers, we will try the custom-made one, see how the fit, the colour and shape are and cement them in.
Bonding: We finish up with some final touches, polishing, and verifying your occlusion (how your bite functions).
Whitening: will ensure proper brightness.
Aligners: we will check your progress, give you the next set and ensure you are in fact wearing them properly.
We are watching your smile evolve, and giving you the mirror moment: you are going to start saying to yourself “Whoa this is looking good.”
Week 4 – Final Adjustments and Reveal
We do a final polish, final check: edges, bite, comfort, feeling sensation.
We take after photos (you are going to be in our Hall of Smiles).
Week 5-6 (if needed) – Follow Up and Possible Minor Tweaks
Some smile designing cases take a bit longer: maybe a paint or two in shape, colour, wax-up, and aligners.
We will book a follow up: check your comfort, satisfaction, and everything is functioning.
At the end, you will receive your smile reveal: no more temporaries, no more pending checks; your smile is ready for itsInsta reveal.
Smile Designing Treatment Time — What Determines It?
Below are the factors that can influence time in your treatment:
- Degree of change: if you want only whitening and reshaping chips on a few teeth? This will be quick. However, if you want veneers on several teeth and aligners for your entire mouth? That will take longer.
- Baseline of oral health: If you have active gum disease, active cavities, or habits that are unattractive (eg, coffee/tea/cola), we need to address these first.
- Type of treatment selected (we will detail types shortly).
- Number of lab hours needed: If you are having veneers or lumineers made, it will take some time for the lab to do their work.
- Patient compliance: Are you wearing aligners as instructed? Are you avoiding certain foods? Are you keeping your appointments? You have a role to play.
- Healing time: Even if something is cosmetic, your tissues will need to rest and settle.
Smile Designing Types You Should Be Aware Of
Below are the main types of smile designing we offer at Partha Dental You can choose your type.
1. Teeth Whitening
The simplest & fastest. Whiten your natural teeth by several shades.
Timeline: you can expect 1-2 weeks (with the possibility of completing in-office in one appointment).
Best for your situation would be if your teeth are straight, only less white/yellow/brown.
Generally, 1 to 2 appointments, which equals approximately 1 to 2 weeks of actual work.
Excellent for a moderate makeover.
2. Veneers or Lumineers
Custom shells (porcelain or ultra-thin) situated over your teeth to alter shape, size, colour.
Time in practice will take approximately 3-4 weeks from start to finish (prep → lab work → fit).
For someone looking for a dramatic impact, high effect result.
3. Clear Aligners or Minor Orthodontics
Straightening teeth, closing gaps, aligning bite with unnoticeable clear trays.
Time in practice will vary widely (weeks and months); laugh with your smile design, we may even couple aligners during the veneer stage.
This is often the area that will add time to the overall time.
4. Comprehensive Smile Makeover.
When additional services are warranted: whitening + aligners + veneer + possible gum re-contouring
Time in the practice could take anywhere from 4-6 weeks or more depending on complexity.
