Hybrid Denture

What is Hybrid Denture?

A hybrid denture implant-supported denture is one that is anchored by dental implants that have been placed inside the jaw bones. Implant-supported overdentures have grown in popularity as a successful treatment option for patients who are completely edentulous. It enhances retention, stability, function, and aesthetics while also preserving residual bone or jaw bone.

Like removable dentures, hybrid dentures sit on top of the teeth and gums. They are, however, screwed into the dental implant and cannot be removed without the assistance of an implant specialist.

Candidate for a hybrid Denture:

You must have sufficient bone density to be a candidate for implant-supported dentures. However, your dentist may recommend a bone graft to help support your dental implants. Before we recommend oral surgery, you must also have healthy gum tissue and an immune system.

Procedure:

  • A dental implant is a prosthetic tooth root (typically made of a titanium alloy) that is used to hold a crown in place. If you have enough bone density, we will proceed with implant placement in your jaw. Otherwise, a bone graft will be required as a separate procedure.
  • The all-on-6 dental implants will fuse to your jaw in a process known as osseointegration over the next few months.
  • During this time, our implant specialist will monitor your healing to ensure that you are healing properly.
  • We'll snap the arch of false teeth into place once you've fully healed from dental implant surgery.
  • Your implant-supported dentures, like traditional dentures, will have an acrylic base that mimics your gums.

Benefits of implant-supported denture:

  • Gives a much better chewing and biting strength.
  • Gives a better profile in the front of the oral cavity.
  • Dentures supported by implants are as stable as natural teeth.
  • Implant-supported prostheses are gentle on soft and hard tissues.
  • A natural tooth with a crown over it may develop recurrent caries or root caries, but an implant is not susceptible to these conditions.
  • Less bulky to wear and very comfortable.
  • Provides excellent support to your cheeks and lips.

Post care:

  • Follow the prescription given by your doctor.
  • It is recommended to eat a more soft and liquid diet.
  • Intermittent cold packs help in reducing swelling if there is any.
  • It is essential to maintain good oral hygiene. The entire mouth will be vulnerable to bacterial buildup during the healing process, which could cause long-term damage to the implant sites.
  • Regular follow-up for hybrid denture removal, maintenance and cleaning for every 1-2 years is advisable.
