There are so many types of toothpaste in the market these days and selecting the right product for your oral health needs can feel like a daunting task. Do you go anti-plaque, or anti-cavity? Are whitening varieties a good idea? What about desensitizing ingredients ?What about the one with charcoal and salt ?or the Herbal one with clove and neem?
Confusing ? Right!!!!!
We can get so overwhelmed that we simply grab the cheapest option and head home. But choosing a new toothpaste shouldn’t be an impulsive decision, because it can play a big role in your oral health. Before investing in a new tube, be sure to consider the following six questions.
Does the toothpaste have the IDA seal of approval?
No matter what kind of toothpaste you buy, it should bear the Indian Dental Association IDA seal of approval. This is a sign the product is safe to use and is guaranteed to live up to its claims when it comes to effectiveness. If a toothpaste doesn’t meet these basic standards, it’s probably not worth the money. Some herbal toothpastes do not have this seal, so beware !
Does the toothpaste contain fluoride?
Fluoride is particularly helpful for preventing tooth decay and assisting with plaque removal. Choosing a toothpaste that contains fluoride is a simple way to ensure the toothpaste will help maintain (and maybe even improve) your oral health. Fluoride is really important for good teeth and getting it from the toothpaste is a good idea !
What are your goals for your toothpaste?
Different toothpastes are formatted to achieve different things, from plaque control to whitening, desensitizing, gingivitis control, and/or cavity control or just mouth freshening ? Your personal needs and preferences should play a role in determining which option is best for you. Study a bit about the active ingredients and then decide on the one you need !
What are the ingredients?
The labels of many toothpastes may seem indecipherable, but it’s worth knowing how to identify a few common ingredients. Not only can this give you a better sense of what the toothpaste is designed to achieve, but it also empowers you to embrace or avoid certain ingredients as you see fit. Here are some especially common ones:
Potassium nitrate and strontium chloride are two ingredients that may help sensitive teeth. If one of your goals for your toothpaste is a desensitizing effect, keep an eye out for these ingredients.
Sodium laurel sulphate (SLS) is a controversial ingredient. It can be helpful for washing off bacteria, plaque, and food particles from the teeth, but there’s also some evidence it may contribute to tooth sensitivity and cause mouth ulcers for people with sensitive gums. If your teeth are already prone to sensitivity, you may be better off avoiding this ingredient. If you do use a brand with SLS, be aware that accidentally swallowing it can have harmful health effects.
Stannous fluoride is one of two types of fluoride found in toothpastes (the other being sodium fluoride). Stannous fluoride is generally thought to be the most effective of the two.
Triclosan is a common bacteria-fighting ingredient in toothpaste, but there’s evidence it’s contributing to widespread bacterial resistance. If this is a topic of concern for you, you may want to steer clear of toothpastes containing this ingredient.
Xylitol is a relatively new ingredient on the toothpaste market. It is thought to be especially helpful for preventing plaque buildup.
Does it have an appealing flavor and texture?
This might seem silly, but it’s actually important especially for children ! If you don’t like the flavor or texture of your toothpaste, you’re going to be less inclined to brush your teeth—and that can have repercussions for your oral health. In contrast, a flavor and texture you enjoy will make tooth brushing more appealing. (This point holds especially true for children.)
What does your dentist recommend ?
Certain dental factors can influence which toothpaste is right for you. For example, if you have dentures, highly sensitive teeth, gum disease, and so on, this may dictate the kind of toothpaste you buy! Nobody knows your oral health better than your dentist, so consult them about your best options when it comes to identifying an effective toothpaste.
Choosing a new toothpaste shouldn’t be stressful. Armed with these considerations, you’ll be more empowered to select the right toothpaste for you! Incase of any tooth related issues just visit a Partha Clinic closest to you !

With the fun and frolics and late night parties ,parents often forget to monitor tooth brushing and flossing and that leads to dental decay . Moreover , eating sugar filled sweets and candies too can cause extensive damage !
To safeguard against a post Diwali dental decay , ensure the following things:
Your children should brush their teeth two or three times a day with a fluoride toothpaste specially after eating sweets or any sugary drink .
Each brushing should last for a minimum of 2 minutes.
Make sure they reach the back of the mouth with their brush and remove any lodged food particles.
Your children, if they are older than 10 years need to floss once per day; children under 10 years may avoid flossing.
Make sure they also clean their tongues that helps to removes bacteria that can cause bad breath and smell their breath afterwards to see if they have cleaned it well.
Avoid sticky foods like chips, cheese and candies that are very sticky.
Lastly, do not forget brushing before sleeping as it removes the bacteria that causes cavities, otherwise it can play on the teeth for the full night and cause extensive damage.
Well, brushing and flossing are only half the issue , the other half is keep check on the sweets !
Watch Those Sweets
Kids just love to eat sweet things and candies and can munch on them the whole day, if not stopped as sugar gives a “rush” to their tiny brains and makes them feel happy!!!! Sugar can harm their teeth and gums. Sugar enables harmful bacteria to thrive in your child’s mouth. So, to prevent any damage, make sure that they –
They eat a healthy breakfast. Feed your children dalia, oatmeal , cornflakes, parantha etc, along with a serving of any fruit for breakfast and stay away from sugary cereals.
Limit how often they eat sweets. It’s less harmful to a child’s teeth if he or she eats sweets once or twice a day rather than to eat sweets continuously.
Teach them to brush every time after eating sweets.
Watch the snacks. Don’t just give your kids snacks during the day as a matter of course; they’ll let you know when they’re hungry. Provide healthy snacks, such as fruits, cut carrots, muskmelon, mangoes, guavas etc but not laddus or cake .
Another big culprit is sweet drinks and sodas. Watch the sugary beverages. Limit the amount of coke, pepsi and other sweetened , packaged juices your child drinks. Suggest your child drink water after exercise. During meals, go with butter milk instead of carbonated, sugary drinks like Coke , Pepsi etc . Even bottled fruit juices are high on sugar and can ruin the teeth enamel . So post Diwali don’t just clean your house of stale Diya’s and left over sweets ,ensure your little ones sparkling smile remains intact too! For any consultation contact us at Partha Dental !
Bleeding gums could be a sign of gum disease, and gum diseases are the leading cause of tooth loss and discoloration. While occasional bleeding could be nothing more than the result of brushing your teeth rather vigorously, frequent bleeding of the gums can be an indication of a more serious underlying health issue, such as gum disease.
Gum Bleeding
Plaque build-up and hard tartar on the surface of the teeth is the main cause of bleeding gums and disease.
Plaque must be cleaned professionally to prevent not only gum disease but to improve visual appearances and re-vitalise gum health.
In fact gum diseases are 100% preventable with regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene practices!
What Causes Bleeding Gums?
Bleeding gums is a result of the improper removal of plaque. The healthy tissue around the teeth are attacked by the germs contained in plaque, leading to both gum inflammation and irritation and bleeding . The effects of this are worsened when you brush or floss your teeth.
There are two main types of gum disease:
Gingivitis Disease Gingivitis refers to the inflammation of the gums in which the gums surrounding the teeth become red and swollen. Thus, they are more likely to bleed when you brush and floss your teeth. This is the first stage of gum disease.
Periodontal Disease Gingivitis transitions into periodontal disease after a long period of time in effect. In the worst case scenarios, the bone around the teeth breaks down and loosens the teeth causing them to fall of !
Bleeding gums are a sign of gum disease and yes! you need to be worried !
Since gum disease is painless in the early stages, you can detect it if you keep vigilant.
The first sign of gum disease is bleeding gums.
You may notice blood in the rinsing water when you spit in the sink when brushing your teeth or by finding blood on your toothbrush.
Other signs are bleeding while eating, tongue deposits, metallic tastes in the mouth and constant bad breath.
How do I Prevent/Treat Gum Disease?
Since plaque is the main cause of gum disease, it is advised to get plaque removed regularly by a dentist . Make sure that you brush and floss your teeth on a daily basis and visit your dentist for a professional cleaning .
Ultrasonic Instrumentation
Removing hardened plaque can be difficult and close to impossible with a regular toothbrush, which is why ultrasonic instrumentation is advised to battle this problem. Similar to the vibrations felt by an electric toothbrush, this high tech device vibrates ultrasonically to gently remove hardened plaque from the surface of the tooth.
Hand Instrumentation
Sensitive teeth require extra care and attention, which is why we prefer to use hand held instruments. This is the perfect option for sensitive teeth because it is 100% painless, only consisting of a slight feeling of pressure on the tooth as it is cleaned.
Plaque removal prevents bleeding gums and gum diseases. It also improves the color of the teeth and returns the tooth to their original smooth feeling. If you’re worried about bleeding gums and their connection with gum diseases contact Partha Dental clinics today !
When we think of tourism, probably we think of enjoying on a beach or exploring famous attractions in a foreign city. But, there’s is now another kind of tourism that people are talking about , one that has vacation and health rolled in together -dental tourism.
Dental tourists travel to foreign countries to seek dental care. Here’s what you need to know about this phenomenon.
There are many countries that are advertised as dental destinations for medical tourists like dental tourists. These countries include Mexico, Argentina, Malaysia ,Thailand and of course! India . In India one of the most famous and reliable names is Partha Dental , where you can not only get healthy but even go on a vacation and sight seeing included in their packages.
Reasons for Dental Tourism
Low cost -Dental tourists travel for low-cost dental care. Dental care in developed countries like the United States and Canada can be very expensive. Tourists seek care in less developed countries to save money.
Good technology- With globalisation , world class technologies are available at a much lesser price in less developed regions. Labor and real estate also costs less in these regions, so dentists may have lower costs and malpractice insurance is also less expensive. This makes it cheaper
Currency exchange rates – Woth the dollar being stronger , it is cheaper to come to India for dental needs . Beware!
While dental care costs less in dental tourism destinations, that doesn’t mean traveling for care is a good idea. There are many things you must research before traveling for dental care.
Dental standards are a potential issue for tourists. Standards for foreign dentists and foreign dental practices should be same as in say, United States. For example, infection control standards should be world class .
Make sure to ask If dentists will reuse gloves or injection needles, which puts patients at risk and what standards are being maintained .
Ask for case studies and real pictures .
Language barriers are another potential issue, so converse regularly before you go. In India, that is not an issue as everyone speaks English !
Continuity of care is another concern. If you receive dental care in another country, the foreign dentist may not know your patient history. When you return, your own dentist may not know what treatment you received or why it was performed.
For a proper treatment keep both of them in the loop!
But, all in all dental tourism is one of the best in India and Partha dental being a forerunner in that !
What you eat affects your entire body from the top of your hair to the end of your toe! The foods you choose and how often you eat them affects your immunity, mood and of course, the health of your teeth and gums, too. If you consume too many sugar-filled sodas, sweetened fruit drinks or non-nutritious snacks, you could be at risk for tooth decay.
Tooth decay is actually the single most common chronic childhood disease, but the good news is that it is entirely preventable with good nutrition, high calcium diet, fresh fruits and veggies and low sugar .
Tooth decay happens when plaque come into contact with sugar in the mouth, causing acid to attack the teeth. Foods that contain sugars of any kind can contribute to tooth decay. To control the amount of sugar you eat, read the nutrition facts and ingredient labels on foods and beverages and choose options that are lowest in sugar. Common sources of sugar in the diet include biscuits, pastries, soft drinks, candy, cookies and chocolates. Your physician or a registered dietitian can also provide suggestions for eating a nutritious diet. If your diet lacks certain nutrients, it may be more difficult for tissues in your mouth to resist infection. This may contribute to gum disease. Severe gum disease is a major cause of tooth loss in adults in India.
Many dentists believe that the disease progresses faster and is potentially more severe in people with poor nutrition and bad eating habits .
To learn what foods are best for you, visit your nearest Partha dental clinic and speak to our consultants about good nutrition for the teeth and gums .
Some well known good food choices are –
1. For healthy living and for healthy teeth and gums, think before you eat and drink. It’s not only what you eat but when you eat that can affect your dental health. Eat a balanced diet and limit between-meal snacks. If you are on a special diet, keep your physician’s advice in mind when choosing foods. 2. For good dental health, keep these tips in mind when choosing your meals and snacks: * Drink plenty of water. * Eat a variety of foods from each of the five major food groups, including: * whole grains * fruits * vegetables * lean sources of protein such as lean beef, skinless poultry and fish; dry beans, peas and other nuts like walnuts, Pune nuts , almonds. * low-fat and fat-free dairy foods without sugar . 3. Limit the number of snacks you eat. If you do snack, choose something that is healthy like fruit or vegetables or a piece of cheese. Foods that are eaten as part of a meal cause less harm to teeth than eating lots of snacks throughout the day, because more saliva is released during a meal. Saliva helps wash foods from the mouth and lessens the effects of acids, which can harm teeth and cause cavities.
4. Avoid sugary drinks , fruit drinks that are packaged and sticky candies . 5. For good dental health, always remember to brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste that has the Indian Dental Association Seal of Acceptance, floss daily and visit your dentist regularly. With regular dental care, your dentist can help prevent oral problems from occurring in the first place and catch those that do occur in the early stages, while they are easy to treat. For any teeth or gum related problems, visit your nearest Partha dental clinic today !
Cavities can best be described as the worst form of tooth decay. As we all know by now that tooth decay is caused – by what we eat, -how we take care of our teeth, -and the amount of fluoride in our toothpastes.
If your family has a history of tooth disease or teeth problems, then you may inherit it that way but good oral hygiene can save you from it . This is very common, as many people inherit tooth problems that have been passed down from generation to generation but by taking good care of their teeth from childhood itself , they overcome any such problems !
2. Adults who suffer from a dry mouth are more at risk for cavities, as they have a lack of saliva in their mouth. Dry mouth is very common disorder that can be caused by hormonal imbalance , mouth disease or even as a side effect of some medications, illness, and radiation treatment. Tobacco users will also suffer from dry mouth, as the tobacco will use up the saliva in the mouth and leave the user with nothing to keep his or her mouth moist. This causes them to develop cavities and tooth decay .
3. Cavities are a very serious situation, and if left untreated, can result in the destruction of the tooth. This can also destroy the nerves as well, resulting in an abscess. An abscess is very serious, as it infects the root tip. If left untreated, an abscess can result in a heart ache as what happened with a man in UK last year . 4. Although you may not realize it, cavities are a very serious matter that can quickly spread to something even more serious if not checked and treated. 5. If you notice a color change or a blackened area in your tooth, you should make an appointment with the best dentist in your city immediately as it might be the beginning of tooth decay.
If you visit your dentist on a regular basis, he will check for cavities and treat you but without visiting the dentist, it is impossible to tell whether or not you have a cavity.
Most cavities develop below the gums, and you won’t be able to see them. If the cavity exists in the tooth, you will be able to see it, as it will change the color of the affected area.
What you eat is a big contributor to cavities. – If you eat a lot of sweets or – drink a lot of soda, sweet tea and coffee you will be at a higher risk for cavities. – Foods that are rich in sugar or starch are eaten by bacteria found in plaque, which will produce acids that eat through teeth. This acid is very harmful to teeth, as it can eat through the dentin and enamel in no time at all. If you don’t do something about it, the acid will continue to eat at the tooth until there is nothing left to say – leaving you no choice but to get the tooth extracted.
Over time, the tooth enamel will start to break down beneath the surface of your tooth, even though the surface will appear to be fine.
Once the acid has managed to eat away enough of the enamel below the surface, the surface will collapse, which results in a cavity.
After this has happened, if you don’t get it treated, the tooth will continue to be eaten and the cavity will continue to spread until all of the tooth has been eaten, after which the enamel will be gone and your root will be exposed – which can be very painful.
Cavities will more than likely develop in the pits of chewing areas around the back teeth, between your teeth, or near the gum line. No matter where they occur, the easiest way to spot them is to visit your dentist. Your dentist will be able to do x-rays and find out just how bad they are and tell you what options you have. If you visit him in time, he will be able to save the tooth and stop the cavity before it spreads throughout your tooth.
Beware cavities are indeed dark holes to pain and decay , prevent them !
